Essential Oils For Asthma

Doterra AsthmaAsthma is a condition that causes a person’s lung airways to constrict and narrow. This makes it very difficult to breathe and can be very concerning at times. An asthma attack can be triggered by many things including pollution, smoke, allergens, toxins and exercising. These attacks cause tightness in the chest, shortness of breath, wheezing and coughing.

There are a number of essential oils that can alleviate a persons asthma. There are also oils that can be used during an attack.

Eucalyptus essential oil with its common eucalyptol aroma opens up the lungs airways and aids in breathing. You could use Eucalyptus essential oil topically on the chest and neck like you would use Vicks vapor rub. The aromatic benefits would last longer when applied to the skin.

Frankincense essential oil has very strong anti-inflammatory properties. This would make sense to apply to areas that are unnaturally constricting. Frankincense also is very calming for those that are experiencing an asthma attack.  This would be an oil to apply topically or apply to the hands and cup over the nose and mouth and inhale.

Doterra Breathe

doTERRA’s Breathe essential oil blend is a combination of essential oils (laurel leaf, peppermint, eucalyptus, melaleuca, lemon andravensara) that have been studied for their abilities to open and soothe the tissues of the respiratory system. To use doTERRA’s Breathe essential oil blend, apply directly to chest and throat. You can dilute it with a carrier oil like doTERRA’s Fractionated Coconut Oil for sensitive skin.
